East Ayrshire Schools’ Quiz

On Wednesday 26 Novemer a team, consisting of Jaclyn Dunlop from S1, John Linden (S2), Keiran Lawson (S3) and Gavin MacKinnon (S4), went to Doon Academy in Dalrymple with Mr Hendry (Technical) to compete in the East Ayrshire Schools’ Quiz. 

First of all the competitors were informed about the rules of the quiz and then there were heats for each year group.  Kieran won his round of questions and won £20 worth of Tesco vouchers.  The scores were calculated while the competitors ate a delicious spread of sandwiches, cakes, tea, coffee and juice.  The 2 top teams from the heats were Auchinleck Academy and Grange Academy who went through to the final.  

The rules in the final were different.  In the first round of questions the different year groups went head to head.  After that it was a quick fire round with fingers on the buzzers.  It was an exciting finish with Grange Academy leading by one point half way through the competition, however in the end Auchinleck won 61-51.  The team got £20 worth of Tesco vouchers each and a shield for the school.

The quiz will be held at Auchinleck Academy next year.  It was an enjoyable experience for the team and hopefully they can retain the shield next year.
